Yorkshire Ambulance – Keighley
STEP ONE
Yorkshire Ambulance Service commissioned Octane Holding Group to undertake a vital infrastructure upgrade at its Keighley station. The existing below-ground fuelling system was outdated and posed increasing risks related to environmental compliance, safety, and ongoing maintenance costs.
The brief called for the complete removal of the ageing infrastructure and the installation of a modern, above-ground solution — all to be carried out on a fully operational emergency response site. Zero disruption to daily ambulance operations, strict adherence to environmental standards, and robust health and safety protocols were paramount throughout the project.
STEP TWO
Octane Holding Group delivered a turnkey solution, managing every stage of the works with care, compliance, and minimal disruption. The project included:
Safe decommissioning of the below-ground diesel storage tanks, overhead canopy, and existing fuel island
Installation of a new above-ground bunded storage tank designed for safety, easy access, and long-term reliability
New fuel dispensing system and pipework, providing efficient and accurate refuelling capability
Upgraded drainage and containment systems, including full compliance with current environmental and EA regulations
Management of hazardous waste, including the safe handling and removal of asbestos-containing materials in line with HSE guidance
On-site traffic management and welfare provisions, ensuring a safe working environment for engineers and continuous access for emergency vehicles
Compilation and delivery of a full Health & Safety File, including certification, compliance documents, and maintenance guidance
Octane’s team coordinated closely with the client’s operational staff to ensure no impact on critical ambulance operations, with all activities scheduled to avoid disruption.
STEP THREE
The fuel infrastructure upgrade was completed successfully, on time and to budget. Yorkshire Ambulance Service now benefits from a modern, compliant, and future-ready fuelling system that is safer, easier to maintain, and environmentally robust.
Octane’s proactive approach ensured minimal site disturbance, full regulatory compliance, and a clean, professional handover. The project strengthens the Keighley station’s operational resilience and supports the critical work of frontline emergency responders for years to come.
